Mid-Day Meals (1997 - 2005)

mid-day meals In government schools malnutrition is a major reason for school dropouts and poor performance. When CLT started working with such schools in 1997 providing continuous, nutrition program was essential to the school education program. Beginning in one tiny slum school the program grew to encompass many village schools and served to build relationships with local communities.

Key to the success of this program is CLT's housewives' group, fondly referred to as the 'Foodbank' group who collects micro contributions.

The Foodbank group now actively participates in the School Development program and provides milk to government-run Anganwadis (Nurseries 3-5 years).

CLT handed over the midday meal program in these schools to Karnataka government when they initiated it in 2004.
